I remember HEC once tried for Linux's to be ubiquitous across universities, but that initiative didn't get much attention.

Dear Dr Afzal sb,

Yes you are right, Pakistani Universities / colleages are also listed as users of Linux / Open Source software i.e. for Network servers DNS, FTP, Web Server, LMS server, Samba fileserver etc are being used  for research in network protocol we use NS2 software & for High performace computing cluster we use High Performance linpack, means there is big list for multiple things.
I am not sure about any directory for  Pakistani companies but I normay follow below mentioned links  from Freesoftware foundation and  wikipedia for list of open source packages; also can used as guideline for working on Open Source software for future updates.

I would appreciate if someone from this group can share more information about directory.

Regards,
Babar
