Dear Gents,
Getting admission to higher studies/Phd. Should not depend upon the cgpa or percentage of previous degree.the best thing is to have a specific test like Gre,Gat or any that HEC may develop for admission.
And all those **Gents** who are judging some/all students on there english language skill or criticising that they were not able to write in english in there propsals should mind and remember that English is not the National or widely speaking language in Pakistan. and majority of us( I think) have urdu mediam till inter.so atleast in Pakistan this should not a much strong factor for someone to accept the propsal.
Nodoubt English is must have tool for current acedemics but not ultimate.
as we can see Europe, china and the research and development thay able to get without knowing much English.
So sure it is something else for one to be a Phd, researcher, Highly skilled professinal but not marely cgpa.
I also appologize in advance if my input feel inconvenient to any one here.As all are my teachers and much seniors.
WITH ALL RESPECT.

Most universities have set 3.0 as passing GPA for MS. Below 3.0 passing GPA is normally for undergraduate programs. So 3.0 GPA for PhD is justifiable.Dr MisbahSSUET, Karachi

I believe in PhD the Q1 is the largest filter. The students below 3.00 CGPA would be at a greater risk of failing the qualifying exam part-1.Junaid---------------------------------------

I totally disagree with brother Adnan. We should focus here on quality rather than quantity. Most of the reputed universities in Pakistan have the criteria of atleast CGPA 3.0 for MS degree and I think it is a good step if HEC has done it.Regards,Engr.IhteshamOn Thu, Jul 25, 2013 at 8:02 PM, Sajjad <sajjad_akr@yahoo.com> wrote:
Yes, its totally unfair. If a HEC recognised institute issues MS degree, then its right of the student to take admission in PhD.

Sent from my iPhoneSalam,I hear that HEC has set up 3.0 CGPA requirement for admission in PhD, whereas the passing criteria for MS degree is 2.5.If a person with fairly good academic record has not been able to secure a CGPA of 3.0 or above then he/she is deprived of getting admission in PhD.Furthermore, students with equal CGPA from different universities have different calibre. With this email, I would like to float a resolution, that the admission in PhD should be the discretion of a university rather than HEC, i.e. every person who has cleared MS should be able to get admission in PhD provided he/she fulfils the criterion of a particular university.kind regards,-adnan
