[pakgrid] Marie Curie Fellowship - PhD student position - Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic

Early Stage Researcher (ESR) Fellowship at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava

FP7-PEOPLE-2012-ITN Programme

Project Title: Computational intelligence modeling of powder mixing

Reference No: IPROCOM-ESR9

Supervisor (s):
Prof. Ajith Abraham : http://www.softcomputing.net
Prof. Vaclav Snasel : http://snasel.vsb.cz

Salary (living and mobility allowance): The employee will have the
monthly gross wage of approximately 2,595 EUR (depending on employer
deductions, personal circumstance etc.)

Period: October 01, 2013 – September 30, 2016

The Ph.D. position is funded by the European Community program
"Marie-Curie", and will be carried out in the framework of the Initial
Training Networks (ITN) project IPROCOM. IPROCOM (The Development of
in silico process models for roll compaction) is a multidisciplinary
and inter-sectorial consortium aiming at the development of robust in
silico process models and to provide structured training for 15
researchers within a collaborative research network involving 10 full
partners and 4 associate partners from 8 EU countries. The objectives
of the project at VSB–TUO is to develop a robust computational
intelligence platform to identify critical particle properties and
critical process variables that dominate bulk powder characteristics.

We are seeking a dynamic, full time postgraduate researcher with
research interests in computational intelligence (neural networks,
machine learning, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computation, hybrid
approaches) to join the Department of Computer Science at
VSB-Technical University of Ostrava where the candidate will work on
the development of novel computational intelligence frameworks
supervised by experts from Machine Intelligence Research Labs (MIR
Labs), in a research project within the IPROCOM consortium funded by
European Commission under the FP7-PEOPLE-2012- ITN Program.

You must have a good degree in Computer Science, or a related area.
The successful candidate will have a keen interest in computational
intelligence and data analysis. We plan to develop a novel hybrid
computational intelligence platform in a parallel environment.
Preference would be given to candidates having some publication
records. The research project would develop a novel computational
intelligence framework and it is also expected that the selected
candidate will participate in a wide range of networking activities
including intersectoral secondments, IPROCOM training schools,
workshops, short courses, dedicated sessions at international meetings
and network conference.

Eligibility: This fellowship is offered in the context of a Marie
Curie Initial Training Network and transnational mobility is a key
element of eligibility. Therefore your eligibility for the post is
determined by Marie Curie terms and conditions. This post is open to
any national but you must not have been resident in the Czech Republic
for more than 12 months in the past 3 years (prior to 1st October
2013), not have been awarded a doctorate and be in the first 4 years
of their research careers.

The candidate is expected to bring the following knowledge/experience/abilities:

- Technical scientific background (Masters degree in Computer Science
or its equivalent)
- Advanced Knowledge in different computational intelligence tools and
data analysis
- Hands on experience in programming (C++, Java, MATLAB)
- Knowledge in numerical simulation
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Good English language skills

How to apply:

If you are eligible and interested, please e-mail the following documents:
-  a letter of application
-  a detailed CV, listing your research interests and publications
-  good level of English required (TOEFL or CAE level for example)
-   two recommendation letters (from your supervisors acquainted with
your work or education)

Although the position will remain open until filled, applicants are
encouraged to submit their applications before May 15, 2013 and may
result in an early decision. Please direct your informal technical
enquiries to Prof. Ajith Abraham <ajith.abraham@ieee.org>

Please send the complete application package as a zip archive to the
following emails:

Hard copies may be sent directly to the following address:
