I agree that the concept of alumni relations is much more deep rooted here in USA. However, I think if the Pakistani Universities do simple stuff such as maintaining alumni contact information and sending them University news once in a while, it can also bring a lot of small donations. Many of the alumni from Engineering programs are now employed in the Gulf and North America. Given the exchange rate, it is not difficult for Universities to raise 50 - 100 million rupees per year. Some of the Pakistan based online Quran tutoring services are collecting fees online. Therefore, it is not difficult to set up online payment services for Universities.

I had a very similar discussion earlier today. US universities give their students a lot more (of course they also charge a lot more) than most Pakistani universities; health services, dining, sports, bookstore, sports, transportation, tradition, etc. This leads to a deeper sense of belonging in the alumni.
