Chester,
I am surprised that no one has answered your post! I too am interested in an
answer,, I was with the belief that only the 7000 system could be moved
around and that the only other system that Hughes offered was the 9000
system and it was spot beamed and hence could not be moved about.. Now by
what you say the 1000 system (gen4) might be what we are looking for.. I do
hope that some of the informed people on the site will speak up,,, I am sure
that you and I are not the only one interested in this topic.

Subject: [RVInternetBySatellite] New system
I just got a new system that is on this new gen4 satellite 117 I think. I
had a dustyfoot system and i could set it up with out any help when we moved
around . But it when out the man that i got it from stop selling them for
some reason. So it just set here for about two years. Then the other day
this guy came by my house asked if i would like to sell my old system or let
him set me up with a new one that worked on this new gen4 system. So I let
him put me in a new dish and new modem and router. He got it up and running
in about 20 mins. but told me he need to come back and install some more
solfwear on it and to show me how to set it up when we moved it around from
place to place. I have not seen him yet or been able to call him. So I"m
wanting to know if there is one place on the net that you installers use to
set up a system. like commissioning the system again. So i can use this junk
agin when we move around . I know there are people out there that do this
type of things. So if you can help me out,let me know. Thanks alot Chester

Actually it was answered, by Joe Keenan shortly after the original post. The answer is no.
There is unlikely to ever be another satellite system that can be moved and setup by end users inexpensively.
It IS possible that an expensive method will eventually be available for the HT1000/Gen4; Exede already has such systems. Both portable/flyaway and automatic roof mounted. In either case the equipment is expensive even when compared with our concept of expensive in the past (Motosat, for instance), and the service is also high-end on the price scale. Not designed for consumer users.

Joe,
I think you must have missed the response, which said exactly what you did:
that the Gen4 is spot-beamed and cannot be moved. Perhaps one day there
will be a roaming type system in place, similar to the cellphone network,
but currently I know of no such capability. Every move requires a
professional installer to get you back online on a different beam.
Chester,
Please post what happens, when/if the installer returns. It would be very
good news if the software he needs to install WERE roaming software!
I have not been able to get any current info, since the dealer I work with
had a family emergency, which has kept him out of communication.
Take care,
Barb

Hello Joe
Hey looks like to me all of them are able to be moved around from place to place.
From what i have been told that if you got a new modem and are trying to set it up . you need not to have to hit the satellite that you were asinged too. like satmex6 or satmex5 and so on. I'm finding out that hughs ,dish and direct Tv just what to sell us all this junk and to heck with helping us out when things go wrong with (It). LOL I got Tv and Internet dishs & modems all screwed up................. If and when i find out about the ht1000 modem will let you know. I think all i need to know is the page to go too to get started to recommissioning and registration. Chester White

Thank you Don , Barb & Chester,, Evidently I did miss the original
response.. So all is as I originally feared, the old 7000 system and
possibly the Star band systems are the only game in town. and when they die
so do weL.

Actually it was answered, by Joe Keenan shortly after the original post. The
answer is no.
There is unlikely to ever be another satellite system that can be moved and
setup by end users inexpensively.
It IS possible that an expensive method will eventually be available for the
HT1000/Gen4; Exede already has such systems. Both portable/flyaway and
automatic roof mounted. In either case the equipment is expensive even when
compared with our concept of expensive in the past (Motosat, for instance),
and the service is also high-end on the price scale. Not designed for
consumer users.

Chester, there is one, and one only, satellite for the Gen4 service and the HT1000 modem. It is Echostar 17, also known as Jupiter 1, located at 107.1W.
There are some technical issues wtih pointing a Ka-Band dish, but they are not insurmountable. The problem is that the service uses very small spot beams. If you move out of the spot-beam to which you are assigned it will not matter how good you are at pointing, or what you do in terms of registration/commissioning, the beam will not recognize you and you will not get on. Period. It will require dealer involvement to get you moved to a new beam.
It sounds like someone also has told you that you could change satellites on your own with the 7000 service, and if someone did tell you that they were very much wrong.

I believe that Don's statement applies to all Hughes satellite service and modems. Not unique to the HT1000. Takes a VAR or recognized installer for Hughes to switch satellite assignments for you with the HN7000s modem.

Is anyone on 89W (G28) noticing fluctuations in service lately? For the last couple of weeks I've had a problem ... started out just minor blips in service now it can go on for a couple of hours or more.
Symptoms?
The 3 middle lights (transmit, receive, system) go out or more often, only transmit and system go out. We tried switching from solar to shore power, taking all the cords apart and grounding the lines, etc. Things would seem to work, then before long, the lights would begin flickering and then go out. Initially it seemed like only during the warmer parts of the day ... but a couple of times at night I've lost service. We haven't moved the system for several months.
Oddly enough ... when I first turn on the modem, I get all 5 lights and if I'm fast I can get send and receive email before I lose lights. Other times the system works perfectly. Go figure.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Sally

Sally: I have been on 89W for about 5 years now and have not had any major issues, I have been on at least 4 transponders over that time. I will run into slow periods once or twice a week and that about all the problems I have had (except for weather related). I uses Dielectric Silicone Compound (can be found at NAPA stores) on all my cable connections, on both outside and inside. Before doing this I was chasing cable problems like everyone else.
Wish you luck.

No. I meant 7000. I was responding to: "From what i have been told that if you got a new modem and are trying to set it up . you need not to have to hit the satellite that you were asinged too. like satmex6 or satmex5 and so on."
I can only guess, but I'm guessing that he was told that his satellite would change when he got an HT1000 modem, which is true, and he interpreted that as "all these years I've been told that you couldn't change, and all it takes is a new modem."

Sally,
Check for condensation in the window on the LNB when it stops working. If you get a little moisture in the wave guide when it warms up it will form condensation on that window blocking the signal. I had problems like that once and found I could shade the LNB/transmitter to help a little but if that is the problem you will need to take it all apart, dry it out and seal everything up when putting it back together.

I see. Too many unknowns and vague statements in this whole thread, unfortunately.

Well, Joe and I are probably the last mobile StarBand dealers and we will be
around for awhile!
We also do mobile HughesNet, but that is an unknown at this point. HughesNet
outsourced all Ku-band services to a couple of companies. I was told that
they will work with installers to set up new Ku-band/HN7000S accounts, but I
have been unable to get any details.
Take care,
Barb

Actually it was answered, by Joe Keenan shortly after the original post. The
answer is no.
There is unlikely to ever be another satellite system that can be moved and
setup by end users inexpensively.
It IS possible that an expensive method will eventually be available for the
HT1000/Gen4; Exede already has such systems. Both portable/flyaway and
automatic roof mounted. In either case the equipment is expensive even when
compared with our concept of expensive in the past (Motosat, for instance),
and the service is also high-end on the price scale. Not designed for
consumer users.

Do you know when HughesNet plans to launch their 2nd satellite?
I thought perhaps they had, when I heard they outsourced the Ku-band
services .... having a second satellite means not having to continue to
lease transponders on other satellites, to avoid line-of-sight issues that
lose the customer. ;-)

Chester, there is one, and one only, satellite for the Gen4 service and the

There are some technical issues wtih pointing a Ka-Band dish, but they are
not insurmountable. The problem is that the service uses very small spot
beams. If you move out of the spot-beam to which you are assigned it will
not matter how good you are at pointing, or what you do in terms of

It sounds like someone also has told you that you could change satellites on
