Hi Joe

Thanks for the tip on the DES ... I'll give that a try. Just a little dab or ...?

I'm finding that "slow periods" are becoming more and more of a nuisance ... just when I'm about to give Hughes the heave-ho, they improve. For the past week or more the speeds have been less than dial-up for many hours of the day. Do you find the same thing? This is worse than it has been for quite some time.

I uses Dielectric Silicone Compound (can be found at NAPA stores) on all my cable connections, on both outside and inside. Before doing this I was chasing cable problems like everyone else.

Hi Roger

Good to hear from you!

I don't think it's condensation ... we're still in Ajo and haven't had any rain for quite some time. But I'll check it out ... I remember you mentioning the "shade" trick before ... condensation was a problem some years ago back home and we did take the pice apart and dry it out. Worked great after that.

Take care.

I had problems like that once and found I could shade the LNB/transmitter to help a little but if that is the problem you will need to take it all apart, dry it out and seal everything up when putting it back together.

Be careful, with the dielectric grease, however. It is a two-edged sword.
If dirt get into the connections during a setup, it can definitely make
things worse.

Take care,

Ouch ... seems like I have enough trouble without adding more. Ah, decisions. Thanks, Barb.

At this time, the launch of SatMex 8 is still on for 3:07PM EDT tomorrow, March 26th.

This is the long-delayed replacement for SatMex 5.

Subject: RE: [RVInternetBySatellite] New system

The Hughes second satellite is what is referenced as Jupiter 1. It was
launched several months ago. Their first satellite was Spaceway 3, which the
9000 uses.

Of course referring to any satellite as belonging, or not belonging to
Hughes gets complicated. There was a time about 4 versions of Hughes in the
past when most commercial satellites were Hughes. The Galaxy series was all
Hughes-built and owned by a Hughes subsidiary. Many of the competitors
satellites were designed and built by Hughes at the time.

Now they are part of Echostar, so technically the latest satellite is no
longer owned by Hughes, it is owned by the parent company Echostar. even
though it was designed and built by Hughes.

Hughes has enough capacity to absorb every one of their Ku-Band customers,
and has actively tried to get everybody to switch. Look at Chester's story
for an example. The problem is that there are a lot of Ku systems belonging
to folks who need Conus connectivity, and there are a lot of long-term Ku
leases, so it isn't going away any time soon. Outsourcing, though, makes a
lot of sense.
